We Don’t Know.

We could all point to countless things that have been difficult, painful, or even traumatic in our lives. And frankly—sadly—that’s just life. Our suffering isn’t unique, but it is ours. And it’s real. If you haven’t hit a storm yet, just wait—your turn will come.

Each of us carries our own story. What I had to fight to survive might’ve been a walk in the park for someone else, and vice versa.

One of the truest things I’ve ever heard is this:

You don’t know.

You don’t know someone else’s struggle.
You don’t know how hard they’ve had to fight.
You don’t know what loss, tragedy, addiction, or abuse they’ve endured.
You don’t know what pain—emotional or physical—they might be in right now.

And the same goes the other way—they don’t know what you’ve carried or are currently battling.

What I can’t wrap my head around is this:
We know this truth, yet we’re still mean. Still judgmental. Still cruel. I’m guilty of it. We all are.

Why? Why do we forget that we’re all fighting battles? Why do we act like we don’t know? How do we evolve past this?
How do we live at a higher level, where grace, compassion, and humility guide how we treat each other?

It seems that change must start somewhere and with someone, so let it start today here with you and me.
